Time to leave MCForge and use different server software?

If you guys don't want to learn new commands/ lose commands, use a different fork of mclawl. (Mcforge is a mclawl fork)

Here is a list of all mclawl forks. Mcstorm looks pretty good.

Whoops! Didn't see the first page. Disregard this entire post.

As far as I understand, since Mclawl itself is unstable, all of its variations are unstable as well. Hence the drastic switch to an entirely new platform.
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

So it's still insomniac servers

i didnt buy the domain only to have it changed 3 months later.

Hmm. Looks like both MCForge and 800craft servers dropped last night. This points more to a host machine or network problem rather than an MCForge problem. On the previous occasion where MCForge dropped and 800craft didn't, it could have been just lucky for 800craft the way the heartbeats work. So we are back looking at skitty's machine or network as being the possible cause for the unknown drops.

These random drops are only part of the problem. Even if we fix this we still have issues with MCForge crashing due to physics or /fill commands gone awry or something or other.

All issues need to be fixed if we want to get busy again - both the software crashes and the random network dropouts. At least running the 2 servers is a good test and we are getting closer to the cause of the problems.

acually that was my bad, i unplugged the modem unintentionally.

i was trying to get a wire from behind the damned table

Alright then. Uhm. I guess that means MCForge is back on the table as being the source of the problem.

I'm currently on Insomniac 2 and found some greif if an op wants to come repair it there may be multiple areas of greif.

Main commands in 800craft:

/j mapname - switch maps, same as /g (/goto) in MCForge
/g - grass. Place dirt and it turns to grass. Applies to /z too. i.e. /g then every /z of dirt afterwards will be grass.
/water - in this mode only blue blocks turn to water, unlike MCForge where all blocks turn to water
/lava - in this mode only red blocks turn to water, unlike MCForge where all blocks turn to water

/b - same function as MCForge but the time shown is the time since the change, like "2h37m ago"
/banx playername - bans player and undos everything, like MCForge /xban except it doesnt ban IP
/up playername time - like /undo but the time format is different. Use something like 2h40m or 2d3h
/ua playername time - works like /up except it will only undo the person within a specific area which you have to mark with 2 clicks (like a cuboid around the area you want to undo).

The commands which involve undoing another player (/banx, /up, /ua) have to be confirmed with /ok
e.g.
/banx grieferdude
=> This will only ban the person .
/ok
=> Then the grief gets undone.

/undo - undos your last action. Works for cuboids or the last /undoplayer that you did. Can undo about 3 of your last commands.
/spheroid - the 2 blocks you place are center point and radius, and not the 2 corners like MCForge. It is always a full sphere. For flat or oval shapes use /ellipsoid
/ellipsoid - works exactly like MCForge /spheroid
/door - almost non-existent since you can only make 1, so choose wisely. Place normal blocks then type /door and mark a cuboid around the blocks that you want to form the door.

so it looks like we are officially leaving mcForge and going to 800craft? or are we gonna test out a few other hosters?

bren4q

I'd like if people tried out 800craft first. If they take time to get used to it and they are ok with it, then I'd be on for switching. Or if most people don't like it then we would probably stick with MCForge.
But if they only use it briefly and say they don't like it then I don't think that really counts because it can take a while to get used to some stuff.

jwirth

yea it took me a few hours to get used of it and I think we can manage without a few things like doors.

Krawkyz

The big part is the loss of doors. Tnt works by just left clicking it (BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PLACE IT THEN) and there are more physics choices. Another part loss is the amount of blocks with mcforge.

McForge:
Pros
-More Blocks
-Doors*
-Unhiding gives a message (moderation)
-/gun has more choices
-Full name doesn't always have to be used with commands (/tp kraw, not /tp krawkyz)*

Cons
-DISCONNECTION (commonly referred to as heartbeats)***
-Less physics*
-tnt more annoying

800craft:
Pros:
-STAYS UP***
-More Physics*
-Tnt breaks with left-click
-Somewhat better moderation (/ok makes you a little more sure)

Cons:
-Less blocks (Loss of active_water, fire, etc.)
-Hiding is shown a little less (unhiding is no message)
-Full name is used in most commands (/tp krawkyz, instead of /tp kraw)*
-Lack of any mass-doors (15 blocks per user of doors)*

*Important matter

I think I would rather easily go with 800craft, but there's some random stuff summed up into one pile of information.

jwirth

physics on 800craft is actually more dangerous because if they are on and you place tnt they will explode, im not sure if there is even a command to undo physics for 800craft as well.
